payout) and find out what each area of a craps table is used for.
Craps can be a baffling game for a novice. First, understand that Craps is a
game of rounds. The Come Out roll is the first roll in a round.
Occasionally the outcome of a round will be decided on the Come out roll. Pay
special attention if a 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12 is rolled on the Come out roll,
because it immediately ends a round. When and if any other total number is
rolled (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10) that number is called the Point
.
When starting a round, the first roll of the dice in a betting round is
always called the Come Out roll. The come out roll is made when the previous
shooter fails to make a winning roll, in other words, they fail to make the
Point or seven out.
The players surrounding the Craps table all get a chance to throw (shoot) the
dice in turn. If you decide you don't want to throw the dice, you can always bet
on the thrower. Quite a few types of bets can be made on the table action.
Now the dice are rolled across the craps table layout. Let's explain, the
layout is divided into three areas - two side areas that are separated by a
center one. Each side area is the mirror image of the other and contains the all
of the following: Odds bet, Place bets and Field bets, Pass and Don't Pass line
bets, Come and Don't Come bets. The center area contains the Proposition bets
and is shared by the two side areas.
Winning/losing plays
When does a Pass Bets win? When the come out roll is 7 or 11, though pass
bets lose when the come out roll is 2, 3, or 12.
When do "Don't bets" win or lose? Don't Bets lose when the "come out" roll is
either a 7 or 11, and 'don't bet's win when the "come out" roll is either a 2 or
3.
When do "Don't bets" tie? "Don't Bets" are tied when the come out roll is 12
(in some casinos a 2; the 'Bar' roll on the layout shows which roll is treated
as a tie).
Kinds of bets at Craps
Pass Line Bet - You can win if the initial roll is a natural
(7, 11) and you can lose if it is craps (2, 3, 12).
Odds on Pass Line Bet - After a point is
rolled you are allowed to make this additional bet by taking odds. There are
various payoffs for every point.
Come Bet The same rules apply as the Pass Line bet. The
difference is in the fact that you can only make this bet only after the point
on the pass line has been determined.
Odds on Come Bet - Precisely the same as the Odds on
Pass Line bet, with the only difference that you take odds on the Come
Bet, not on the Pass Line bet.
Don't Pass Line Bet - This is a reversed Pass Line bet. If
the first roll of a dice is a 2 or a 3 you win and if it is a natural (7, 11)
you lose.
Don't Come Bet - The reversed Come Bet. After the come point
is established you win if a 2 or 3 is rolled, and lose for 7 or 11.
Place Bets - This type of bet works only after the point has
been determined. You can place a bet on a dice roll of 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. 8
pays 7:6. Feel free to cancel this bet anytime you want to.
Field Bets - These bets are for one dice (one roll of two
dice) roll only. If a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12 is rolled you win. A 5, 6, 7 and 8
you lose. Big Six, Big Eight Bets - Placed
at any roll of dice these bets. You win if a 6 or 8 comes out before a 7 is
rolled. In the case of Big Six and Big Eight, they are even bets and are paid at
1:1.
